“I have been practicing medicine since 1998 in Norwood. I come from a large family in India. I grew up seeing many of my family members, including my father, suffering from diabetes complications. When I was young, my mother donated a kidney to my father to keep him alive for few years, but he eventually succumbed to the illness. All of this played a role in choosing medicine as my profession. I want to help people improve their lives through better lifestyle, general health awareness and being accessible to them.

“I am very fortunate to be a primary-care doctor as I am constantly involved in many challenges of improving care and the lives of my patients. I am grateful to all my patients for the mutual trust, respect and bonding that directly result in better quality of care. Everyone is entitled to better health and no one is more strongly positioned than a primary-care physician for directly improving a patient’s quality of life. I like to know my patients well, make them comfortable and treat them with the utmost respect and compassion. I pride myself on being very thorough and providing comprehensive care for my patients.”

In her free time, internist Dr. Gowda likes to travel around the world and learn about different people and cultures. She enjoys reading books, watching movies and spending time in her garden. She also supports many charities in the areas of improving education, healthcare and hunger.

“I have been practicing medicine in Norwood since 2008 after moving here from Minnesota. I have a special interest in the treatment of diseases of the kidney, especially management of chronic kidney disease related to diabetes and hypertension.

“I developed an interest in further studying diseases of the kidney during my residency. The kidneys are fascinating organs that finely regulate the levels of various electrolytes in our bodies. The incidence of chronic kidney disease has also been increasing, mainly associated with rising rates of diabetes and hypertension. Much can be done to slow the progression of disease and I would like to educate more people about their complications. I feel privileged to be able to help patients understand their problems and help them to gain control over them in the long run.

“In my free time, I enjoy reading and traveling with my family. I am involved in the PTO at my children’s schools and help with various educational activities such as the ‘Understanding Our Differences’ program. I also volunteer at our local library.”

MSc: Nursing, Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professionals, Boston, MA

BA: William Smith College, Geneva, NY

“I have worked for Norwood Medical Associates since 1995. I grew up the only daughter of a primary-care physician and started my post-college career path trying out various professions. I was continuously drawn back to healthcare, which included working in homeless shelters, hospitals, rehab units, nursing homes and the community. I was fortunate to have a wonderful mentor and clinical advisor in my father and have learned that primary care is by far the most important first line of healthcare and the most enjoyable.

“I continue to work in the nursing home setting as well as the office setting. The cornerstone of my practice philosophy is that all people deserve the best healthcare I can give them. Many of the patients I see have been with me for almost 20 years, and I have had the honor and joy of helping many of them achieve better health.”

In her free time, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her husband, her two children and their two dogs.

“I have been fascinated by the workings of the human body since childhood and have always dreamed of working in healthcare. I had originally intended to obtain my degree in biomedical engineering and designing artificial joints and limbs, but was much more intrigued with the biology part of it and decided to concentrate my focus there.

“Cardiology has always held a special interest for me. After college, I worked in cardiovascular research for five years, before and during my time in grad school. This interest was reinforced when my father began having heart problems and needed cardiac bypass surgery plus many stents over the years. During grad school, I also worked at a short/long-term rehabilitation facility as a nurse and I continue this work in a different capacity, seeing patients at multiple rehab facilities on a regular basis. I began working at Norwood Medical Associates the fall after my graduation and have been able to form many long-term relationships with some truly wonderful patients. I look forward to going to work every day and I love the challenge that this profession brings to me. I honestly never know what each day will bring and I truly enjoy this.”

In her spare time, Stephanie enjoys cooking for her family and others. She loves to read, and she spends many of her weekends at her children’s sporting competitions. She is also a USA Swimming Official for her daughter’s club swim team and enjoys helping out with her son’s football and baseball games.
